Meet the CED Research Team

Professor at Rutgers Graduate School of Education, Rubin investigates how young people learn and engage as citizens across classroom, school, community and national contexts. She works with educators and youth to design and study curricular and pedagogical innovations that attend to the complexities of youth civic learning amid historical and contemporary injustice. 

Chloe Bellows is a PhD student at the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. She has been an ESL and bilingual teacher and teacher educator in elementary, middle, and high schools and community organizations working with adults. Prior to starting doctoral study, she lived in Argentina and Brazil for 11 years.  

  Renée is a PhD student in Educational Theory, Organization, and Policy. A former middle school teacher, Renée has been learning about Youth Participatory Action Research alongside middle school students in Ms. Gustafson’s (one of our brilliant YPAR mentors) Youth in Action club and, more recently, working with a group of 10th-12th graders at a charter school in Newark. Her research interests are around belonging, transnational student identity, and their experiences in American public schools.

Deja Lee is a Masters student in Education: Learning, Cognition, and Development. She has a background in Political Science and African/African American/Black Women Studies that has influenced her research interests around implementing human rights education, equity in curriculum, and understanding the impact of ethnic and cultural representation in American public schools. This is her first year working with the expansion of Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR).
